What makes us different?
Some marketing or advertising agencies have all the services any client may need. We’re a little different. We’re not a one-size-fits-all-business. We respond to what you want.
We believe in small agencies; we believe in one-person shops, because size does matter.
At some point, I realized it might seem we provide research, strategy, branding, marketing, advertising, public relations – and we do provide those services – but, really, we’re all about providing what you want.
That means we begin with who you tell us you are, what you do and what work you believe is necessary. Then we build a team to do it. The upside is: you only pay for what you need.
I’ve owned or operated three “agencies.” My first, Words, Inc. in the Napa Valley, like my last, Blue Bolt Marketing, in Marin County, were one-person shops. My middle “agency,” Triad (also in Marin) had four permanent employees. It hired freelance talent as necessary.
Triad is where I saw the drawbacks of the “large” agency. Triad clients were often the business units of large corporations: e.g., the marketing office of Imperial Bank, or the marketing office of northern California General Electric. Large clients need a lot of work, which in turn generates large agency fees. So, big agencies handle big clients who have enormous appetites. It’s the big that will get you unless you understand how and when to use it. Remember Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard: “I am big. It’s the pictures that got small.”
Our difference is clear. We don’t provide advertising or marketing so much as we provide human understanding. We listen. We connect. And we perform.
